Estate Hand Painted Miniature Pin/Pendant
This hand painted miniature is based on the full-length portrait or Simonetta Vespucci 1453-1476 by Botticelli. She was a noble woman from Genoa and the cousin-in-law of Amerigo Vespucci – the explorer from whom America got it’s name. (It is debated that he discovered America before Christopher Columbus was credited with the discovery). Around the turn of the last century, painters began to revive the art of portrait miniature painting. Most of the artists were self-taught trying to replicate the full length portraits of Renaissance painters like this artist did with the Botticelli paintings.
